Síle Seoige, presenter on RTÉ's Nationwide, tells Patricia Weston that she has no problem exercising once it involves a bit of fun.
Are you a regular exerciser?
I love the gym and taking the dog for a walk. I joined a gym about two months ago to increase my fitness level because I knew I'd be on the go travelling for Nationwide.
What's your workout at the gym?
Lots of my friends are members so we meet up to do classes. I do step aerobics and toning classes. I don't do any weights and I'd get bored pretty quickly if I was to work out on the treadmill and exercise bike.
Is there any other activity you'd like to try?
I'd love to try yoga or Pilates.
Did you play sport at school?
I played a bit of badminton and volleyball.
Do you follow a balanced diet?
I eat well and try to drink lots of water. I think if you listen to your body you can't go wrong. If you're tired and have had a busy day, why not treat yourself to something nice? I find eating healthy fun because I feel better. If I was to eat fry-ups, I'd feel awful.
Have you ever dieted?
I'm not into diets because they don't work. I detox though; I cut out refined sugar and drink water and herbal teas.
Are you conscious about your appearance?
Image is paramount in TV. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to be that little bit skinnier.
What's your attitude to exercise?
I enjoy exercise when it's good craic but once it becomes competitive I don't enjoy it.
How do you de-stress?
A session in the gym with a shower afterwards is great for stress. I also relax by putting on my jammies and sitting in front of the TV. Patricia Weston recommends:
Aerobic exercise is exercise that involves continuous physical activity for at least 20 minutes. It uses more oxygen and burns fat as fuel compared to anaerobic exercise which involves bursts of activity over a shorter period of time such as weight training or high intensity running and uses blood sugar as fuel.
Patricia Weston is an NCEHS fitness instructor, personal trainer and Pilates teacher.
Consult a physician or qualified healthcare provider before embarking on any exercise regime and stop exercising if you feel nauseous or dizzy.
