Catchy names may encourage more children to eat vegetables

Vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet, but they don’t always cause an eager stampede to the dinner table. Young children in particular can be reluctant to eat their greens, or reds or yellows.

Could giving those veggies a catchy name encourage the younger diners to eat them? Perhaps. Research in the US showed that schoolchildren tended to eat more carrots, broccoli and peas if they were given names such as "X-ray vision carrots" and "Power Punch Broccoli."

The study was published in the journal Preventive Medicine in 2012, and you can read more about it on the Cornell University lab's website here.
