Geraldine Clare, Chief executive officer, Aware.
Personal/family: Partner, Aidan, and three sons, Gary, Ronan and Damien.
What figure from the world of medicine or health do you most admire?
Dr Noel Browne. He worked to address the social issues that impacted on people's health and in doing so put his head above the parapet in a way that we seldom see today. I also admire the unsung heroes throughout the State who give up their time in volunteer work that provides vital support services to those in need.
What other career might you have chosen?
Possibly teaching.
If you could grant three wishes for the health service, what would they be?
A top-quality service delivered as a matter of right rather than resources, a patient-centred approach to care and an end to stigmatisation of those with mental health illness.
What is your greatest fear?
Heights.
Have you ever been a patient and were you a good one?
Yes, I have been a patient on a number of occasions before. But I wonder what it means to be a good patient. Is it someone who shuts up and puts up?
When or where are you happiest?
I'm at my happiest watching Derry City or Man United.
How do you cope with stress?
I love walking and my native Donegal is the perfect place to do just that.
What is the trait you most admire in yourself?
My sense of humour.
What is the trait you most dislike in yourself?
Lack of patience.
Do you use alternative or complementary medicine or therapies?
Sometimes. I have difficulty with my ears and find ear candling very relaxing and I feel it is beneficial.
Who or what makes you laugh?
My three sons.
What is your motto?
Life is short so we should make the most of every day.
What is your favourite TV or radio programme?
'The Premiership.
What books would you bring to a desert island?
Anything by Thomas Hardy or John Steinbeck.
