What figure from the world of health/medicine do you most admire?
Prof Tony Dickenson for his pioneering research into cellular mechanisms for the causes of pain and his ability to simplify such a complex topic.
What alternative career might you have chosen?
Engineering.
If you were appointed Minister for Health what would be your first priority?
Drastically reduce middle management and administration throughout the health services and increase both acute and long stay beds with appropriate staffing.
Do you have a phobia/what is your greatest fear?
Missing a 3ft putt to lose the captains prize.
Have you ever been a patient and were you a good one?
Yes, for a small procedure and hopefully a good patient.
What three books would you bring to a desert island?
The Barrystown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle; Ulysses by James Joyce (haven't started it yet) and The Short Game Bible by Dave Pelz.
Have you a fail-safe method of dealing with stress?
Afternoon at the races or game of golf with friends.

Most programmes on BBC Radio 5 Live.

South of France.
