Radiologist did write reports, medical inquiry told

Consultant had told fitness-to-practise inquiry he may not have written all reports at issue

Two final witnesses have given evidence at an ongoing Medical Council fitness-to-practise inquiry in Dublin.

Radiologist Dr Dawar Siddiqi is accused of making serious errors in relation to a number of his CT scan reports.

Dr Siddiqi, who worked as a locum consultant radiologist at Bantry General Hospital between May and September 2013, is facing the allegation of poor professional performance.

Not all verified

During the cross-examination on Monday, Dr Siddiqi raised the possibility that he had not authored all of the reports under question, as he claimed that not all of them had been verified.

However, on Tuesday, Roisin O’Carroll, the radiography services manager at Bantry General Hospital, said Dr Siddiqi was indeed the author of the three reports under question.

Ms O’Carroll said there was only one report for a patient who was facing a serious threat of cancer spreading and that there was no addendum to this patient’s report.

“This is the only report for this patient,” Ms O’Carroll told the inquiry during her evidence. “We don’t have any other reports for this patient,” she said.

Ms O’Carroll also said in two other cases Dr Siddiqi queried, there were no changes and they were written by him.

Dr Siddiqi denies the allegation against him.
