Re: Check-up column, HealthSupplement, February 20th
Dear Sir,
Now that Bishop Casey has received a broken hip there will probably be renewed interest in the matter. You had a piece on it on February 20th (Check-up) and, as a former victim, I have wished since to correct an impression you gave that it would be cured in six months. The worst of the pain will be over in six months but the hurt will always be there as will the weakness.
Bishop Casey's friends were planning a party for him when this happened and they have said they postponed it until he recovered. I think it might be kinder of them to arrange to take it in turn to call for a short chat every few nights or so, and then Bishop Casey would undoubtedly rise from his chair some night and say: "I want to have a party and you people will arrange with my friends and their wives to come and I will arrange the rest and we will have fun."
I have no doubt the wives would throw themselves into the arrangements with gusto.

Re: My Kind of Exercise,
HealthSupplement, May 1st
Dear Sir,
In Patricia Weston's My Kind of Exercise, Mark Hamilton states: "I gave up smoking a few years ago and it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I'm still struggling."
I am off the fags four years now thanks to the late Dr Jack Gibson's method of self-hypnosis/ deep relaxation and I don't miss them one bit.
His method is to get the sub-conscious working in tandem with the conscious mind. The conscious mind wants to give up the fags, whilst the subconscious plays tricks on us. Hence the withdrawal symptoms and mood swings. Indeed, Dr Jack argued that nicotine was one of the most addictive drugs.
I would recommend Dr Jack's method to those wanting to give up. His tape/CD, Enjoying Stopping Smoking, is self-explanatory.
I had smoked for 40 years, since primary school. Your HealthSupplement is a pleasure to read and learn from.
Yours sincerely,
