Reminding someone to breathe might sound like silly advice after all, we breathe all the time, don’t we? Yes, of course you need to breathe to get oxygen into your lungs and on to the cells and tissues of your body.
But if you are feeling under pressure - maybe a stressful situation has arisen and you are starting to feel angry or overwhelmed - then consciously taking a few deep breaths could help to stop the negative feelings escalating.
So the next time you feel like you are getting tied up in knots, release the tension by inhaling deeply, holding the breath for a couple of seconds and then letting the breath out completely. Your body will thank you for it.
