Batches of Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are being recalled because of their link with food poisoning.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), along with the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, is investigating a number of cases of poisoning caused by the same strain of salmonella in Ireland and some other European countries.
There have been 10 cases in Ireland to date, caused by the same strain of the bacteria that is behind dozens of cases in the UK
More cases have reportedly been recorded in France, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. The eggs are made in Belgium by Ferrero .
“A number of these Irish cases have involved young children, all of whom have fully recovered,” the FSAI said.
“ The FSAI is warning consumers who may have the recalled products at home not to eat them.”
The batches being recalled are Kinder Surprise 20 grams and Kinder Surprise 20gX 3, with best before dates between July 11th and October 7th of this year.
