Visitor restrictions have been put in place at Cork University Hospital following an outbreak of swine flu.
The hospital said it had one confirmed case of the H1N1 flu virus while a number of other patients were displaying symptoms associated with the illness.
A consultant microbiologist at the hospital said the flu vaccine would be enough to protect people against the virus.
Dr Bartley Cryan said the outbreak was above the national threshold of 21 cases per 100,000 but he expects that to drop back over the coming weeks. He told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that it was not a pandemic year.

The hospital has closed off one ward and introduced visitor restrictions as a precaution.
