Alcohol warnings:New warning labels on alcoholic drinks to be introduced under a British government scheme announced yesterday should also include the words "alcohol can kill", a charity said last night.
In a voluntary agreement between ministers and the industry, all drinks will be expected to carry details of units and recommended safe drinking levels on their labels by the end of 2008.
At present, bottles and cans carry percentage details of alcohol and most carry unit information.
The British government now wants safety advice for pregnant women put on as well as the recommendations for safe drinking.
Nurses' sex lives:Nearly half of nurses in Britain say their sex life is being damaged by work stress, according to a survey.
The poll by the Nursing Timesfound 70 per cent of nurses suffered the side effects of job-related stress, such as physical or mental health problems, while 44 per cent reported that their sex life was suffering.
A quarter of nurses (24 per cent) said they were drinking more alcohol than usual to deal with the stress of their job, and 13 per cent reported they had started smoking or were smoking more than usual.
Nearly a third (30 per cent) said they had taken more sick leave than normal, with more than 20 per cent taking 30 or more days off during the past 12 months.
Nursing Timeseditor Rachel Downey said: "It is essential that policymakers realise the wide-scale impact of their decisions on nurses, and managers ensure that all possible support is provided to them."
