A BRAND new sexagenarian who could probably sell charisma to Connery is Brendan Kennelly, who celebrated his birthday at a party attended by over 500 people in TCD on Wednesday night. The party for the hugely popular professor and poet had the usual birthday cake and balloons plus some very well-received star turns - as a tribute to him Bono, Kathleen Watkins and Gay Byrne gave readings of their favourite poems and Charles Haughey made a very moving and amusing tribute speech.
