Nick Heidfeld will test for Jordan next week after the Formula One team said they had taken an option on the German driver's services.
Heidfeld, 26, was with Sauber this year but is searching for a drive after being released last month by the Swiss-based team after they signed Italian Giancarlo Fisichella and Brazilian Felipe Massa.
Jordan also have an option on Ralph Firman but have yet to announce either of their drivers for 2004. The Ford-powered team said in a statement that Heidfeld would test at Jerez in southern Spain from December 3th-5th with 20-year-old Czech driver Jarek Janis.
"Nick is a prime candidate for a revitalised Jordan Grand Prix next year and we are anxious for him to start getting to know the team at this stage," said team boss Eddie Jordan. "It is an important test as we have got a lot of new components to try as well as vital tyre testing for Bridgestone."
Jordan are due to launch their new EJ14 car in the first week of February.
