Montreal - Thirteen members and associates of the Hells Angels are due to go on trial in Quebec City today accused of kidnapping and being members of an illegal gang, Mike Fox reports. Yet in spite of the case, it seems the province may be about to enter another violent phase in the biker gang wars.
Since the mid-1990s more than 160 people have died in a bloody battle for supremacy between the Hells Angels and their arch-rivals, the Texas-based Bandidos, who took over the Rock Machine gang in December.
The group faces charges including kidnapping, extortion and uttering death threats as well as being members of an illegal gang. The case will be staged amid tight security rarely seen in Quebec. Members of the public will not be allowed into the courtroom, instead following the events on a videolink next door.
