Fifth seed Tim Henman was eliminated from the US Open last night after losing 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 to 26th seed Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina.

Henman made 42 unforced errors to Chela's 19. Chela will play Andy Roddick or Alex Corretja in the next round.

Pete Sampras advanced to the fourth round after winning a five-set thriller over Greg Rusedski 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 7-6 (7/3), 3-6, 6-4.

Sampras broke Rusedski in the final set to claim the match after three hours and 15 minutes.

The 13-time Grand Slam winner, who has not won a title since Wimbledon in 2000 but has reached the final here the past two years, plays Germany's Tommy Haas for a spot in the quarter-finals.
