Referee Graham Poll will report Thierry Henry to the English Football Association after the French striker reacted angrily to Arsenal's 3-1 premier league defeat by Newcastle United on last night.

"Thierry Henry will be the subject of a lengthy report to the FA which they will have in the morning," Poll was quoted as saying on the BBCSport Online.

At the final whistle Poll was escorted off the pitch by two policemen but it needed further interventions from Arsenal staff and players to keep Henry from getting himself in serious trouble as he aimed a tirade of abuse at the official.

Asked about Henry's behaviour, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "I don't know if he lost his head. I was in the dressing room. But you have to remember players are human beings.

"They fought for a cause and feel they should deserve respect. I will stand by him."

Poll turned the game Newcastle's way by sending off Ray Parlour just before the break as the Gunners led 1-0 and though he evened matters out by red-carding Newcastle's Craig Bellamy, his decision to award a penalty against Sol Campbell for his 86th minute tackle on Laurent Robert upset Wenger.

"If there wasn't so much effort involved it would be a comedy what happened," said Wenger.
