A former soldier turned heroin dealer has been jailed for four years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. John Gantly (41), of Oliver Bond Flats, Dublin, pleaded guilty to having heroin for sale or supply in April and May, 1999. A search of his flat on April 16th 1999 uncovered 49 prepared heroin deals and £245 in cash. The heroin was valued at £800.
The court was told that the father of three dealt primarily to finance his own habit. He was not a violent person. He formerly had a good work history and had been in the Army.
Judge Elizabeth Dunne said that she would review the sentence in 12 months.
