Heuston Station in Dublin reopened yesterday, following refurbishment work.

Iarnrod Eireann said work had been carried out on the railway bridge over Sarsfield Road between Heuston and Inchicore.

A new track crossover was also installed at Inchicore.

All services will now operate to and from Heuston without bus transfers, which operated on Saturdays and Sundays.

The company said that the work was part of the station's redevelopment, which would see major work on the platforms and approaches to the station, allowing for more efficient operation of trains in and out of Heuston and an increase in the number of platforms from five to 10.

This would reduce delays and increase the number of services using the station.

The work also facilitated the upgrading of the Kildare route and would see extra tracks laid between Heuston and Kildare to allow more suburban services in particular to operate from Kildare and other longer-distance commuter areas.
