The High Court will give its decision today on a bid by retired Dublin assistant county manager Mr George Redmond to stop his trial on alleged corruption charges from proceeding before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
After a two day hearing last week, Mr Justice Kearns reserved judgment and will give his decision this morning.
Because of extensive media coverage of his affairs and conduct, Mr Redmond (78) has claimed it would not be possible for him at this time to be tried by an impartial and unbiased jury.
During the hearing, in submissions for the DPP, Mr Patrick Gageby SC said many of the articles referred to had appeared before Mr Redmond had been charged.
Mr Patrick MacEntee SC, for Mr Redmond, argued there were days when one could have heard "wall to wall George Redmond coverage" on radio and this had jeopardised his chance of a fair trial at this time.
