Addis Ababa - Ethiopian troops killed, wounded or captured more than 21,000 Eritrean soldiers between June 9th and June 13th in battles along the border between the two Horn of Africa states, the Addis Ababa government claimed yesterday. The fighting was continuing, a government statement said.

"During the course of these military engagements, the Ethiopian air force penetrated behind enemy lines, causing the Eritrean army heavy human and material losses," it said.

Eritrea claimed earlier that "the total number of Ethiopian troops put out of action in five days of intense fighting [reached] over 18,000".
