Tennis: Martina Hingis set up a mouthwatering quarter-final clash with Kim Clijsters at the French Open today when coming through a tense battle with Shahar Peer.
Having been forced into a second day by poor light yesterday evening, the match resumed at one set all and the first game of the day proved a marathon one.
Hingis eventually secured the early break after 14 minutes of play but it meant little when the Israeli broke straight back.
But Peer, who ousted sixth seed Elena Dementieva in the previous round, was unable to sustain her early level and even though Hingis wasn't at her best she still had enough to push on and secure a 6-3 2-6 6-3 victory.
The 12th seed is hoping to win the only Grand Slam title currently missing from her CV but will face a tough task against world number two Clijsters on Tuesday.
In the men's event, Alberto Martin's tournament ended in agonising fashion when he was forced to quit his fourth-round match due to a back injury.
As a result, home hope Julien Benneteau's surprise run continued and he goes through to take his place in the last eight.
