Martina Hingis coasted into the fourth round of the Australian Open today with an effortless 6-1 6-0 win over Barbara Rittner.

The former world number one raced to victory in just 46 minutes as she outran and outplayed her German opponent on the Rod Laver centre court. Her opponent in the fourth round is South Africa's Amanda Coetzer.

Hingis, playing in only her second tournament since ankle surgery last October, showed she had lost none of her court speed or accuracy as she produced her best performance of the tournament so far.

The 21-year-old Swiss has won each of her three matches in straight sets and is rapidly getting back to the form that won her three straight Australian Open titles from 1997-99.
