Detectives investigating a fatal hit-and-run in north Belfast hope the first anniversary of the tragedy will provide a breakthrough in the case.

Stephen Montgomery (34) was struck by a vehicle on Jamaica Road in the Ardoyne area in the early hours of February 13th last year. Mr Montgomery suffered serious head and body injuries and later died in hospital.

Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick said officers will be stopping cars and handing out leaflets in the area tonight in a bid to jog the memories of motorists.

Insp Kirkpatrick said: "The last 12 months have been an incredibly difficult time for Stephen's family and his closest friends.

"Not a day goes by when they do not think about Stephen and what happened to him that night.

"They would like to be in a position to move forward but until the people who were in the vehicle that struck Stephen that night are identified and this investigation is concluded, Stephen's family and friends will be unable to do this."
