An alcohol awareness campaign aimed at young people holidaying abroad has been launched by the Department of Health.
As part of their ongoing campaign to highlight the potential dangers of alcohol, the Health Promotion Unit at the Department will be distributing a wallet through travel agents that will contain information advising holidaymakers on how to drink alcohol safely.
The Department says sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and incidents of personal violence occurring abroad are becoming more common and alcohol often plays a part.
The wallet, called Less is More – It’s Your Choice recommends:
- Eating before you drink
- Keeping your drink within sight at all times
- Pacing your drinking
- Ensuring you and your friends get home safely
- Remembering that alcohol dehydrates and advises drinking water or a mineral between drinks
- Advises travellers not to mix or double their alcoholic drinks
- Advocates carrying condoms for those who may be sexually active.
