Gardaí have launched an investigation into the death of a homeless man in Cork following his discovery on a street last week.
The man, in his late 30s and originally from Knocknaheeny, was found lying on Rutland Street off Douglas Street in an unwell state at around 9.10pm on Thursday. He was taken to Cork University Hospital, but died there yesterday. Gardaí have requested the services of the State pathologist office to carry out a postmortem.
It is understood the man was conscious when he was found, but lost consciousness, although he had no sign of any injury when he was found.
Gardaí believe the man – who was living in hostel accommodation – had been drinking in the Rutland Street area earlier in the day.
