A number of homes have been evacuated a bomb alert in north Belfast.
In the latest in a series of bomb warnings to hit the north of the city, police responding to the alert in Stratheden Street in the New Lodge area said they had found a viable device.
Residents were moved at around 7am and a controlled explosion was carried out on what is believed to have been a pipe-bomb.
Members of the community were allowed to return to their homes after midday.
Sinn Fein’s Caral Ni Chuilin condemned those behind the incident. “This morning we have had yet more misery inflicted upon the community in north Belfast, and to what end?” she said.
“What is the point in this and why aren’t those responsible, if they are confident in their actions, stepping forward to, at the very least, try and give a rationale for what they are doing?
“It’s time these things stopped - the community in the New Lodge don’t want it.”
