The Minister for Health, Mr Brian Cowen, has said that the future of the County Hospital in Roscommon is secure after officially opening a new u £750,000 development at the hospital yesterday.
A new psychiatric day hospital, the refurbishment and extension of an existing surgical ward and a new day surgical ward are included in the development. There are also plans to build a new heli-pad and a new Accident and Emergency department, currently run from a 20-year-old prefabricated building. Mr Cowen said he took satisfaction "in being able to firmly consign to history any notions of uncertainty that may have existed previously".
