TWO INVESTMENTS unveiled in Belfast yesterday are to create some 120 jobs between them.
The opening of what is just the fourth digital cinema in either Britain or Ireland by Omniplex is providing more than 60 jobs.
The new eight-screen cinema, in Dundonald on the outskirts of east Belfast, cost some £9 million (€9.65 million).
The new £16 million (€17.15 million) Park Inn hotel in Belfast city will provide 60 full-time posts and more part-time positions.
The 145-room development is the first to be built in Northern Ireland by the Rezidor Group.
However, the announcements follow more job losses within the North's manufacturing sector.
Engineering company FG Wilson is cutting its workforce in three Co Antrim plants by around 150. Twenty-five were laid off last week.
The company, which manufactures gas and diesel generators, said the job losses would affect plants in Larne, Monkstown and Springvale.
In Derry Arntz Belting, which makes engine components, is putting its workers on a three-day week beginning next month.
The company hopes trading conditions will improve to allow full-time working to return in spring.
The Belfast Telegraph, now part of Independent News and Media, said it is reintroducing its voluntary redundancy scheme for staff. However, it is not known how many redundancies the company is seeking.
The move was necessitated by "unprecedented trading conditions".
