Petrol-bombers attacked a house and a car in Northern Ireland overnight.
Detectives are investigating claims that the incidents are related to a list of names that had been posted around the area.
A PSNI spokesperson told ireland.com: "We cannot rule out a sectarian motive for the attacks at this stage."
Police and fire crews were called to a house at Blackthorn Court in the Harpurs Hill area of the town just before midnight. A petrol bomb had been thrown at a car parked outside, causing scorch damage.
Minutes later, there was another attack in nearby Quickthorn Place. Police said a homeowner had heard a loud bang, caused by a bottle of flammable liquid being thrown at the property. The device failed to ignite.
Sinn Féin councillor Billy Leonard said the attacks are a "clear attempt to try and target and intimidate nationalists in Coleraine because of the surge in nationalist confidence and support for Sinn Féin".
He called on Unionist politicians and community leaders to "challenge the attitudes within their community that try and make attacks, such as these on nationalists, in any way acceptable".
