Houses of Catholic families on the peaceline in north Belfast have been damaged by a loyalist gang, writes Suzanne Breen in Belfast. About 20 loyalists broke through a gate which separates Tiger's Bay from the nationalist Dun cairn Gardens and attacked property with paint bombs, stones and other missiles.

They were later dispersed by the RUC. It is understood that three houses and a car were damaged.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital last night after being shot in the leg at the junction of Tyndale Grove and Ballysillan Park, north Belfast, at 11 p.m.
