There are one-and-a-half-hour flights from Helsinki to Hetta, via Rovaniemi, £180 return. You can also travel by train from Helsinki to Kolari, 12 hours, cost: £82 return. Then on by coach to Hetta.

For flights to Finland: Dublin-Helsinki, via Amsterdam, with Aer Lingus and Finnair: £399 Pex fare. Or London/Manchester-Helsinki, £200 with Finnair (0044 171 408 7222). Falcon Travel (01 47 80 533) specialises in travel to Finland.

The currency is the Finnish mark. £1 equals FIM 6.8 but be warned: the cost of living is higher in Finland than here.
