The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) announced today that it will undertake a construction safety campaign aimed at reducing deaths in the sector.
The HSA plans to carry out in excess of 1,000 inspections as part of the campaign. It will also distribute a multi-lingual DVD.
This year the HSA will the inspectors will focus on house-building projects, especially in the north west of the country, which has a higher-than-average level of construction deaths.
HSA chief executive Tom Beegan said: "This focused safety campaign is a determined effort by the authority to ensure that companies maintain the highest standards and that the appalling level of construction-related deaths is reduced."
Nine people have lost their lives in construction-related accidents this year.
