Former Republic of Ireland full back Chris Hughton has been named the Philips Sports manager of the month for April after leading Newcastle United back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Having been relegated from the top flight at the end of the 2008/09 season and with the club up for sale, Hughton started the 2009/10 season in the Championship as caretaker manager.
After a positive start to the season which saw him awarded three manager of the month awards he was named permanent manager in October 2009 and went on to secure promotion on April 19th following a 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle.
Chris gained 53 International caps for the Republic of Ireland from 1979 to 1991 and went on to become coach under Brian Kerr from 2003 to 2005.
