London - Cardinal Basil Hume, who is dying from cancer, has been taken to hospital for treatment, his office confirmed yesterday.
The illness has forced the Cardinal, who as Archbishop of Westminster is leader of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, to cancel a scheduled appearance tomorrow.
He was due to attend a flower festival which forms part of the Corpus Christi celebrations at Arundel Cathedral in West Sussex.
