An SDLP spokesman confirmed Mr Hume, who was a key figure in the Catholic civil rights movement in January 1972 when 13 people were shot dead in the city, will testify.
Mr Hume did not take part in the march by the Derry Civil Rights Association, which was protesting against internment. He opposed it after a previous confrontation between marchers and the British army at Magilligan Strand, near Derry.
The Foyle MP will be the latest high-profile witness to testify. Sinn Féin’s national chairman, Mr Mitchel McLaughlin, former MP Ms Bernadette McAliskey and journalist Mr Eamonn McCann have all given evidence.
Northern Ireland Education Minister, Mr Martin McGuinness, who has admitted to having been the IRA's second-in-command in the city on the day of the shootings, has also agreed to appear.
