A dispute over hurling at a 21st birthday party may have been the start of a row that led to the death of a Co Westmeath man.
Gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry into the death of Kevin Dowling (41), Turin, Mullingar, and are preparing a file for the DPP. He died yesterday afternoon from injuries received in the incident on Saturday night.
Mr Dowling, a married man with no children, never regained consciousness after being removed to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he died just before 3pm yesterday.
About 150 people attended the party, and gardaí have already interviewed more than 60 of them.
