The balmy sunshine looks set to pack its bags this evening but there'll be no shortage of heat this weekend at the hurling quarter finals in Semple Stadium and Croke Park.

Cork take on Limerick in Thurles on Saturday at 4.15pm with Kilkenny squaring up to Galway at 6pm. Due to major road works in the Cahir and Cashel areas, supporters are being asked to consider alternative routes to avoid delay.

People travelling from Cork should travel via Limerick ( N20 ) and either the N7 to Neangh, the R498 to Borrisoleigh and Thurles. They can also take the N8 to Mitchelstown and divert onto the R513, R662 to Galbally and the R662, R664 to Tipperary.

Those travelling from Limerick can use the N24 to Tipperary and the R601 to Dundrum, followed by the R661 to Holycross and Thurles.

Car parks will be available on all approach routes and motorists are advised to use them as illegally parked vehicles will be towed away.

The Galway Arts Festival, now in its 28 thyear, is in full swing this weekend with events and performances guaranteed to set the city buzzing.

The Big Top will host many Irish and International artists, as will all of the city's music venues.

Many of the events are ticketed or pay at the door with tickets available from the festival box office on  (91) 566577, the festival's official website http://www.galwayartsfestival.com and some event venues and local record shops.

Saturday will see the return of rain in the west and east of the country but suncreams should not be consigned to the top shelf just yet. Next week is expected to be warm and sunny with daytime temperatures in the low to mid twenties.
