Nassau - Hurricane Dennis aimed its 130 kpm winds at the northwestern Bahamas yesterday, and was expected to strengthen as it brushed by Florida on the way to the Carolinas, forecasters said.
Hurricane warnings were in effect for the northwestern Bahamas, alerting residents to expect hurricane-force winds of at least 118 kpm and up to 25 cm of rainfall within 24 hours.
Hurricane watches were posted for a 336 km stretch of Florida's Atlantic coast from Sebastian Inlet in central Florida to Fernandina Beach near the Georgia border, signalling the possibility of storm conditions today or early tomorrow.
