An Irish man found guilty of killing his wife while on holiday at a Spanish resort has been ordered to return to Spain to serve his sentence.

Dermot McArdle, who a year and a half ago was convicted by a Spanish court of the manslaughter of his wife Kelly Ann Corcoran, had initially been allowed home to Dundalk pending the outcome of an appeal.

With that process now over, it is understood a judge has instructed him to return to start his two-year jail term.

Ms Corcoran fell from the balcony of a hotel in Marbella ten years ago during a violent row with her husband.

A jury of five women and four men found him guilty (by seven votes to two) of manslaughter after a week long trial in October 2008.

As well as the jail sentence, McArdle was ordered to pay €220,000 compensation to Ms Corcoran's family and to the couple's two sons.
