King Hussein has started a new round of chemotherapy at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, the Jordanian ambassador to the US said yesterday. Earlier reports suggested the king returned to the US because he was "exhausted" and not because of his cancer.
"The king is undergoing chemotherapy treatment," Mr Marwan Moasher confirmed. "He is fully aware of everything and his morale is very high. He is in stable condition and every day that passes when he is in a stable condition is good news."
The king, who is suffering from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (his second bout of cancer in six years), was treated in the US for six months but returned to Jordan on January 19th, declaring himself "cured".
Doctors are considering a bone marrow transplant in the hope of saving his life.
