Ann Mulrooney is perhaps best known as initiator and co-ordinator of Sculpture at Kells, the extraordinary annual exhibition at the "other" Kells, that is the Co Kilkenny village beautifully situated on the King's River, and the site of Ireland's largest monastic enclosure. But she is also a gifted sculptor in her own right, with a distinctive vision and superb technical skills. Her first solo Dublin show, at the Peppercanister Gallery in Herbert St, features her exquisitely made bronzes.
These curious, hybrid forms are at once familiar and slightly disturbing. She describes them as "metaphorical soul implements" and they provocatively yoke together images drawn from the body, plant forms, tools and domestic implements, suggesting the complex interconnectedness of things.
