DUBLIN’S DART commuters may soon be logging on as Iarnród Éireann is exploring free Wi-Fi internet access for the service.

The company rolled out internet access for passengers on one train between Dublin and Cork this week. The Wi-Fi access will be extended to 67 carriages servicing the Dublin to Cork route from September.

Travellers on other routes will be connected from the end of the year as Iarnród Éireann plans to equip 60 carriages on other intercity routes. The company is “exploring” with the National Transport Authority “the possibility” of introducing Wi-Fi across DART and commuter services.

The contract for the wireless service was awarded to Dublin-based company FleetConnect.
