Turlough O’Sullivan has today announced he will step down as director general of Ibec in the coming months, having reached retirement age.
Mr O’Sullivan has been head of the main business and employer body for nine years having been appointed in 2000.
After a career in the private and semi-state sectors he joined the Federated Union of Employers (later to become FIE) in 1975 and subsequently Ibec in 1993.
The organisation said it will shortly begin the process of finding a successor to Mr O'Sullivan through a public competition.
“I have been very privileged to lead IBEC’s highly professional and dedicated team for such a lengthy period. I thank them for their excellent work, support and friendship. I am profoundly grateful to IBEC members for their support and loyalty,"said Mr O'Sullivan in a statement.
"I warmly appreciate the courtesy and cooperation I have enjoyed in my relations with the Taoiseach, his predecessor, other members of governments, senior public service managers, leaders of the opposition parties, other organisations with whom IBEC interacts including the trade unions, state agencies and the media," he added.
