The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has expressed concern at the delay in passing legislation to protect low-paid workers in sectors such as retail and catering.
Last week the High Court ruled that the joint labour committee system of setting wages was unconstitutional. Taoiseach Enda Kenny said it would not be possible to introduce emergency legislation before recess.
“Leaving it to the autumn is far too relaxed a position to take . . . up to 200,000 workers are covered by JLCs,” said Ictu general secretary David Begg yesterday.
