Gardaí have confirmed the identity of a body discovered on the banks of the River Shannon in Co Clare on Friday as that of Limerick man Francis Greene who disappeared in suspicious circumstances last November.
Mr Greene, who would have been 48-years-old on Thursday, was originally from Kilteely in Co Limerick and went missing from his city centre flat.
Gardaí are investigating whether the single unemployed man was forcibly taken from his basement apartment at Hartstonge St.
A 27-year-old man has already been question about the suspected false imprisonment of Mr Greene.
A full investigation of the circumstances of Mr Greene’s disappearance and subsequent death is continuing and is being led by officers from Henry St garda station in Limerick City.
Gardaí said preliminary post mortem results have been given to the investigating team.
