IFA protest over roads planned for Tipperary

The group will picket a Route Options Public Consultation meeting being held this afternoon. The meeting is part of the planning process for a proposed new road from Castletown to Nenagh in Tipperary.

Meanwhile the NRA is going to the High Court tomorrow to seek orders for access to farmland if farmers refuse to co-operate with its officials.

NRA chief executive Mr Michael Tobin was reacting to yesterday's "gravely disappointing" IFA move to recommend withdrawal of all co-operation with the compulsory purchase of land for road building.

Today's protest in Roscrea is expected to begin at around 2.30 p.m. The IFA said another protest may also take place today in Cashel in Co Tipperary.
