One of Dublin's landmark shopping centres is to undergo a €50 million refurbishment, it was confirmed today.
The ILAC Centre in the city centre will undergo a renovation that will see the replacement of all entrances and facades to give an enhanced street presence including new graphics and signage.
The plans, designed by retail architects Benoy, include raising the roof, replacing the floor, and removing plant rooms spanning the malls to improve sight lines and create a sense of space and light.
Irish Life Assurance said the update will create a state-of-the-art 22,750-square-metre shopping centre and claimed the new redeveloped centre will attract leading international retailers and ensure the Henry/Mary Street area remains the city's top retail destination.
More than 3,700 square metres of existing retail space occupied by Dunnes Stores in Moore Mall will also be refurbished. This move will mean Dunnes Stores will extend its Henry Street store into the ILAC Centre at Moore Mall and Central Square.
The former Dunnes unit will be redeveloped by the ILAC owners into a number of large units to attract premium tenants and increase the number of customers who visit the centre.
The project is expected to be completed by spring 2007.
