An appeal opened at the Supreme Court yesterday against a High Court decision that Iarnrod Eireann is not obliged to negotiate with the breakaway Irish Locomotive Drivers' Association (ILDA), which has a membership of about 140 locomotive drivers.
Iarnrod Eireann had claimed it was required to negotiate and conclude agreements on terms and conditions with trade unions recognised for such purposes by the company. It said ILDA did not have a negotiating licence.
The appeal continues today.
