The Irish Locomotive Drivers Association(ILDA) has postponed any announcement of strike action until at least next Monday when the ILDA Committee meets again

This follows today’s meeting to discuss the failure of Iarnród Éireann to conclude disciplinary hearings against eight of its members.

In a motion, passed this afternoon by the Committee, the ILDA agreed to reexamine the situation next Monday.

The motion says: "This branch . . .agrees to reinstate the industrial action it suspended on May 12 should Iarnrod Eireann fail to process the [disciplinary] actions and all future actions by August 20."

If Iarnrod Eireann fails to respond that notice of the reinstatement of strike action will be issued which, under law, must be two weeks or more.

Last week ILDA indicated it may resume nationwide industrial action if the issue was not resolved to its satisfaction.

The new threat relates to May's rail strike by ILDA drivers that was suspended while the issues were investigated by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) and the Labour Court. The ATGWU was seeking recognition for its ILDA branch.
