IMPACT workers at Aer Lingus have vote to accept a rescue package for the company by a large majority.

More than 2,000 cabin crew, pilots and middle management were balloted on proposals, which include 2,026 voluntary redundancies.

Over 80 per cent of cabin crew and pilots voted in favour of the proposals, while 98 per cent of middle management voted for the deal.

IMPACT staff also voted on a proposal to expand the employee share option plan (ESOP). SIPTU workers will vote on that element of the package separately in the new year.

Yesterday, 81 per cent of SIPTU staff voted to accept the package. However the company is seeking to forgo retrospective payments since payments under PPF were suspended. This issue will be subject to a new vote.

One hurdle facing the company is the low up-take of the voluntary redundancy package by pilots.
