Karl Power takes to the Headingly outfield - Allsport

Hoaxer Karl Power emulated his triumph in fooling Manchester United by successfully posing as an England batsman at the fourth Test against Australia at Headingley today.

Power hit the headlines earlier this year by sneaking onto a United team photograph prior to their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, explaining to the bemused players that he had been asked to join the line-up by Eric Cantona.

Today he almost overshadowed that hoax by coming within seconds of walking out to the crease to face Australian fast bowlers Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie - only to be foiled by an untimely phone call.

"I'd hid in the toilets for two hours and the plan was to go out at the fall of the wicket before the incoming batsman, but my mobile rang at the wrong time and when I'd finished talking Hussain was already out there.

"We're going to do five world-class stunts and release a video of them before Christmas. Munich was the best and this gave me a good buzz, and there are three more to follow."

By the time Power, who has had a song called 'Fat Neck' named after him by the band Black Grape, had emerged from the toilets Hussain was already taking his guard, and he gave up his mission only a couple of strides onto the outfield before being ejected from the ground by stewards.
